Panathinaikos experienced in Agrinio its first defeat in the second round of the championship. The Greens couldn’t find a way to score and they finally let a goal in, following an effort done by their rival and therefore lost by 1-0.
The duel had two totally different shapes in both periods. In the first one, Lazlo Boloni’s players presented a mediocre image, being powerless both defensively and offensively and thus finished the first half without making a single attack toward the rival goalposts.
During the second half, Panathinaikos’ footballers “stepped on the gas” and threatened Panetolikos’ goalie in several occasions, though sometimes due to his reflexes and some others due to missed opportunities from their part, Panathinaikos’ players weren’t able even to stabilize the game.
Panetolikos, the team from Agrinio, was lucky enough to open the score very early, in the 6th minute, when N’Dinga taking advantage of the inactivity in the Green defense scored from a close distance and sent the ball into Dioudis’ nets. In the second period the Shamrock pressed its rival hardly but neither Ioannidis nor Aitor could score in three normal chances. In the 65th minute Ngbakoto, in the most trivial opportunity of the game, sent the ball to the horizontal post of Melissas, the rival goalkeeper!
The result 1-0 remained till the last whistle of referee Papadopoulos and thus Panathinaikos’ players missed a splendid opportunity to be among the first four teams of the scoreboard, just three match days before the end of the championship.
