Α moment of misfortune, in the second half, was enough to overthrow the situation in the match against Aris causing the defeat for Panathinaikos 1-2 in a duel held at Leoforos stadium. The Greens were active during the first half and led the score. Unfortunately the expulsion of Mauricio in the second part affected the Shamrock and this way the team from Thessaloniki gained the three pointer.
During the first thirty minutes the match rolled without any important chance for both teams. In the 31st minute though, the hosts find a way to open the score. Juankar did an ideal cross from the left side and Sankhare by a nice header did not leave a possibility of reaction to goalie Cuesta. The French midfielder did a wonderful come back into the Green team, after his injury at the game against Giannina and scored his third goal wearing Panathinaikos’ jersey.
Few minutes before the end of the first part the Estonian referee allowed a penalty for a violation that never happened; Manos, though, the player who decided to shoot it, sent the ball to Dioudis’ right goalpost.
The second half started in the worst way for Panathinaikos, as in the 52nd minute Mauricio was expelled, after getting a second yellow card, thus Lazlo Boloni’s team was obliged to continue the game with one player less for a long period. The visitors took advantage of this adversarial situation and by two goals scored in the 62nd minute by Manos and in the 65th minute by Mateo Garcia changed the score and left Athens with three precious points in their briefcase.
