Panathinaikos did its duty, returning to victories. The Greens responded after the defeat against Lamia and achieved a solid 2-0 win against Panetolikos at the Olympic Stadium for the 25th matchday of Stoiximan Super League.
The Greens dominated the field, played with intensity and energy, created several chances, and scored two goals in their attempt to start building a new winning streak.
From the very first minute, Panathinaikos’ players showed great determination on the pitch. Right at the start of the match, after a prolonged attacking phase in Panetolikos’ penalty area, Tete took a shot from the right, sending the ball just past the left post. More chances followed, with Swiderski in the 4th minute, Tete in the 29th, Swiderski again in the 31st, Ounahi in the 32nd, and Djuricic in the 34th.
In the same minute (34’), the goal finally came—one that the Greens deserved based on their performance. After a short corner kick, Ounahi crossed from the right, and Swiderski, with a powerful header, sent the ball into the net, scoring his first goal for Panathinaikos!
The Greens maintained control of the match in the second half, though they struggled to create clear-cut chances. On the other hand, Panetolikos, taking advantage of open spaces, had two good moments (their first in the match) in the 65th and 70th minutes with Tetteh and Roa. Meanwhile, in the 68th minute, the Shamrock also threatened with a shot from Cerin.
Eventually, in the 79th minute, Panathinaikos sealed their victory and secured the three points with a second goal—and what a goal it was! Ounahi received the ball several meters outside the penalty area and unleashed a sensational curling shot, sending it straight into the top left corner of Panetolikos’ goal for a stunning 2-0 lead!
To keep a clean sheet, Dragowski had to make a brilliant save in the 89th minute on a shot by Tetteh.
Now, the Greens shift their focus to the European clash against Fiorentina in the Conference League Round of 16, set to take place next Thursday (6/3) at OAKA.
