Panathinaikos suffered a blackout in Stockholm and was defeated 2-1 by Djurgardens for the third game of the League Phase of the Conference League. The amazing goal scored by Filip Djuricic early in the match was not enough for the Greens, who appeared unrecognizable in the second half of the match, giving the right to the Swedish team to make a complete turnaround.
Djurgardens tried to surprise Panathinaikos having a chance only in the 3rd minute with a misplaced shot by Enguen, who also threatened in the 16th minute but was defeated by Dragowski who was on hand. Rui Vitoria’s Greens, who took control early on in the match, were fortunate to score just after the quarter mark. In the 17th minute, Ioannidis opened up wonderfully for Mladenovic, who crossed in the heart of the area. Djurgården’s defense pulled away temporarily and Djuricic, despite having his back to goal, caught an incredible volley to send the ball into the net for 0-1 with his sixth personal goal of the season! Panathinaikos completely controlled the game and comfortably reached the end of the half, maintaining the lead in the score.
However, in the second half the image of the team was not as good. The Greens allowed Djurgårdens to believe they could turn the match around especially after 50′, when the Swedish team drew 1-1 with Gulliksen, who came out alone against the Green goalkeeper.
In 62′, Dragowski beat Uliksen, keeping the score. However, the same thing did not happen in the 73rd minute, so Hamet hit the spot to make it 2-1. However, at the beginning of the phase, a clear foul on Ioannidis was preceded. And yet, neither the referee and the assistant in the first time, nor the VAR afterwards, saw the violation.
Just as they did not see the elbow that Mladenovic received in the 93′. Although the move took place in front of the second assistant, not only was the foul not called, but the match was not even stopped, despite the fact that the Serbian full-back was on the ground bleeding. Instead of giving a card to the Djurgardens player for his unsportsmanlike behavior, Panathinaikos player was punished for protesting! In the competitive leg, no matter how hard the Greens tried until the end, they couldn’t find a second goal to prevent defeat.
For the fourth matchday of the tournament, the Shamrock will welcome Helsinki to OAKA on November 28 and the victory is more than necessary…
