Panathinaikos was superior to Borac Banja Luka, scored a goal and other great chances, but did not leave Bosnia Herzegovina victoriously. The Greens were held to 1-1 and started their League Phase of the Conference League with a draw although they deserved to win.
Panathinaikos entered the field with determination, wanting to impose its pace. And at the end of the quarter, he had already found the way to the net! In the 11th minute, the Greens developed wonderfully. The ball passed through the feet of several players in a masterful creation. Mladenovic, Djuricic and Sporar worked well together. Mladenovic made a “sweet” cross and Bakasetas with an amazing shot on the move with his left foot “wrote” on the scoreboard 0-1
In the 12th minute, after a nice vertical pass by Bakasetas, Panathinaikos had another great chance with Sporar, who was beaten on a four-pointer by the opposing goalkeeper.
Borac tried to fight back, but the only threat they found was from a Despotovic’s free-kick in the 26th minute, which ended up just wide. The Greens attempted – with Maksimović and Pelistri – successive shots. In the 43rd minute were deflected by the opponents, while one of them found a hand inside the area. However, neither the referee nor the VAR saw a penalty.
The second half started problematically for Panathinaikos who let in a goal in the 50th minute. From a free kick by Herrera, Despotovic headed home and equalized (1-1) for Borats, who threatened again in the 52nd minute with Herrera. However, Dragowski made a difficult save to a corner.
The Greens had a huge chance in the 62nd minute with Sporar, after a combination of Bakasetas and Djuricic, but the ball ended up just wide of the Slovenian forward’s shot. The goal didn’t even come in the 72′, so Tete picked up the ball nicely, shot outside the area but “marked” the right post!
Diego Alonso renewed his lineup in the period 65′-78′ with the entry of Tete, Ounahi, Ioannidis, Arao and Mancini, but the winning goal did not come despite the efforts of the Greens who had their last chance at 90+1′ with a header by Ioannidis that ended up just wide.
