Panathinaikos had to deal with the consequences of its inefficiency in the match against AEK and was defeated 3-1. The guests, in that journey, profited from the opportunities they created and without being superior, got the three points. This match didn’t start in the best way for the Shamrock as just in the 8th minute Chyngrynskyi opened the score, from the box, with his head. Nevertheless, the “Greens” responded immediately and although lost a great opportunity to score with Kampetsis, they equalized with a head by Kourbelis in the 16th minute, after a cross from Bouzoukis. From that point on Panathinaikos was standing much better in the pitch and could have led the score from the 31st minute, but Barkas won Kampetsis in an unrepeatable one to one. In the course of the game and without threatening Dioudis after the goal, ΑΕΚ scored again two minutes before the end of the first half. Oliveira took the ball from Kolovetsios, committing a foul which was never whistled and shot straight into the Green goalposts.
In the second half, ΑΕΚ’s players closed all spaces getting to Barkas’ goalposts and thus Panathinaikos’ footballers weren’t able to score the equalizer. The victory of the guest team was finally confirmed by Verde, in the fourth minute of the additional time, who executed successfully a harsh penalty imposed by referee Diamantopoulos, after a rough up of Kourbelis on Araujo.
