Panathinaikos dominated the game in Peristeri and won 1-0 in a knock out match against Atromitos entering the group of the 16 for the Greek Cup competition. This was the team’s first victory in an away match, in an extremely crucial duel as the team was playing in order to remain in this competition. The Greens were very concentrated and devoted to their plan. They were much better than their rival, from the kick off till the last whistle of the referee. Panathinaikos deserved the victory!
Atromitos tried to shock the Shamrock threatening from the 6th minute but Velez was there to defend an attack by Kostopoulos and a bit later a shoot by Koulouris passed slightly out of the goalposts. The Shamrock took then the reins and attacked in the 17th minute by a header of Carlitos after an assist given to him by Chatzigiovannis. Panathinaikos was controlling the match and Carlitos, the Spanish striker, shot in the 37th minute sending the ball straight into their rival’s goalposts, after receiving an assist by Chatzigiovannis. This was to be Carlitos’ ninth goal in Greece!
During the second period the Greens kept the possession of the ball, controlled the game well and created nice chances to score again, in several occasions, with Carlitos, Palacios and Chatzigiovannis.
Panathinaikos kept the score in his favor and has even threatened the team of Atromitos several times till the very end of the game, which gave the Greens the opportunity to celebrate their promotion to the next round of the Greek Cup.
