Almost a century of this kind of derbies between the “eternal rivals” has been completed and if there was a general rule for the “Greens” this would say that they should not stay airy. Those who appeared in Phaleron on Sunday night were some … ghosts and so the image of Panathinaikos was such a deplorable one that the team experienced a heavy defeat by 3-0 from its “eternal” rival. Both the option and the performance were even below a friendly game between youth teams…
No comments can be expressed concerning the match because Panathinaikos was … absent. The fact that two of the starting defenders couldn’t play cannot even stand as an easy excuse. Actually this was not an issue. The team was neither mentally concentrated nor competent or creative. During the first half the “Greens” were just trying to defend all offensive initiatives of their rival. In every lost opportunity Panathinaikos was conceding a goal! In the 2nd minute Kourbelis didn’t reach the target after an easy head, then Guilherme scored in the 5th minute.
In the 18th minute Chatziyiovanis shot toward the rival goalposts, after having neutralized Sa, but couldn’t score as Ba saved the ball just on the final line. In the 21st minute El Arabi scored a second goal for the team of Piraeus. The period till the resting time moved smoothly as Olympiacos’ players were losing chances to score one more goal.
During the second half the home team reduced its speed and Panathinaikos got some ball possession without any result. Actually the unique chance came in the 89th minute but Kampetsis didn’t find the target. In the same way, as it happened twice before, Olympiacos scored two minutes later achieving the final score of 3-0.
