Panathinaikos controlled the match from the first minute and had the ball possession over AIK. The Swedes played on a double defense zone having 10 players behind the ball, so all free spaces the “Shamrock” could use to attack were closed.
The first occasion for Panathinaikos came in the 4th minute after Hult turned the ball to Berg. The Swedish striker had a bad shot sending the ball out. In the 34th minute Ibarbo lost a great opportunity to score when the pass of Ledesma drove him right in front of the Swedish goalkeeper, but the Colombian player’s shoot was driven into a corner by Carlgren.
In the second half, Panathinaikos started with strength having two good moments. In the 53rd minute a header by Moledo went just a bit over the crossbar and in the 55th minute a shoot by Villafañes, who was in the box, went straight to Carlgren’s arms. In the next minute, AIK threatened with Blomberg but the ball he shoot in the run from a short distance was wonderfully rejected by Steele. In the 75th minute Steele kept again his goalpost “untouched” after rejecting an impressive header executed by Markkanen.
The victorious goal was scored in the 79th minute by Moledo thanks to a diagonal header, following a cross by Mesto.
