After the defeat by 2-1 in the duel against PAS Giannina, for the first leg of the quarter finals of the Cup of Greece, Panathinaikos complicated himself toward the rematch to be held at “Leoforos” stadium. The Greens didn’t perform well in that match and although they opened the score, they have seen later the team from Epirus to overcome, change the situation and win the game.
The match started in the best way for Lazlo Boloni’s team, as Macheda following a cross by Chatzitheodoridis and a head pass from Villafañez, sent the ball straight into the rival nets from a short distance in the second minute and opened the score for the Shamrock. PAS Giannina though scored the equalizer with Pamlidis in the 25th minute.
From the 30th minute and on Panathinaikos started controlling the rhythm of game and had two nice chances to score a second goal. Initially with Aitor who couldn’t score from a vantage point and then in a foul shot by Chatziyiovannis, some minutes later, as the ball was stopped by Lodigin’s post.
In the second half PAS Giannina pressed even more its visitors in order to score a second goal and finally this was achieved in the 66th minute, as Kargas scored the winning goal for his team by a header. The score 2-1 didn’t change till the very last whistle of the referee. Panathinaikos must prove in the rematch at “Leoforos” that he has took a good lesson from all the errors committed in this match and will get the ticket for this Cup’s semifinals.
