Panathinaikos did not finish the match against Atromitos when they had the chances and paid for it at the end. The Greens created the conditions for their fourth consecutive victory in the Stoiximan Super League, which would have brought them to the second place in the standings, but they let in a goal in the 90th minute and were left at 1-1 against Atromitos in OAKA stadium.
The game started ideally for the Greens who found their way to the net in the first good moment they created. In the 16th minute, the pressure of Cerin high up the field, gave the Greens the opportunity to attack. Tete shot diagonally from inside the area, Choutesiotis made a difficult save and Maksimovic, who followed the move, headed home to make it 1-0, scoring his maiden goal with Panathinaikos.
Rui Vitoria’s team maintained absolute control of the game, while threatening again until the end of the half in the 23rd minute with a header by Ioannidis that Choutesiotis blocked and in the 44th minute with a diagonal shot by Djuricic, who sent the ball just wide.
The second half was played at a slower tempo, with Panathinaikos controlling the match without being threatened. In fact, the Greens came close to scoring in the 61st minute with a “thunder” shot by Djuricic, which hit the crossbar of Atromitos, while in the 65th minute Choutesiotis blocked another shot by Cerin.
In the next 20 minutes, no significant phase was recorded, until the 85th minute when the Greens came close to scoring again. After a corner kick by Tete, Jeremejeff caught a strong header in the heart of the area, but was beaten by Choutesiotis who kept his team in the game.
Without having a classic chance during the match, Atromitos managed to equalize (1-1) in the 90th minute with a strong shot by Karamanis. Warda crossed from the left, Kaloskamis headed the ball into the right post and Karamanis, who shot powerfully after taking the rebound, scored for the first time in his professional career. However, this was a phase that should have been stopped at its inception if referee Katsikogiannis or the VAR had seen the violations that preceded it…
