FC Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Yeni Nbgakoto from the French team of Guingamp. The Congolese midfielder signed a 1,5 year contract. Ngbakoto has chosen number 23 for the shirt he will be wearing with Panathinaikos.
Yeni Nbgakoto was born on the 23 of January of 1992 in the French city of Croix. From an early age he joined the academies of FC Clemenceau and when he was 15 he moved to the academy of Metz. There he realized his first professional steps in 2010, at the age of 18. Before getting to the first team he was followed by scouts from top clubs such as Barcelona, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur but he finally stayed in France.
He played in more than 200 games for Metz, scoring 51 goals. In 2016 he was purchased by the English QPR. During a year and a half, he played 29 games for the Championship scoring 5 goals. In January 2018 he came back to France for Giungamp. Till his transfer to Panathinaikos he played with the French club in 80 games scoring 16 goals. .
Although he played for the French National squads of U17 and U18, in 2017 he decided to continue competing for the National team of Congo, the homeland of his parents, where he played twice and scored one goal.
“Panathinaikos is a mythical club with great history. I am very happy being here. Everyone welcomed me nicely and I understood immediately that this is a family! When my agent informed me about Panathinaikos’ proposal I said, without thinking too much, “yes I want to go”! I was in my last year of contract with Guingamp and Panathinaikos offered me a good opportunity to ascend. I am looking forward to wear this team’s jersey and enter the pitch. I know that these last years were hard for the club but I feel that now the club is recovering and is going to be strong and dynamic again. I want to be part of this development! Our immediate target should be to participate in the Europa Conference League competitions. I saw the last two matches of Panathinaikos and I saw that we have a good roster. I consider that with hard work and self-confidence we will be able to succeed. I can score goals and give assists, these are my main tasks in the game. I will do my best to achieve our aims. I am going to offer all my strength for the team because I know how match the fans love their team. Now that I am a member of the team of Panathinaikos I am going to love the team as much as the supporters do”. These were the first words of Yeni Ngbakoto upon signing his contract.
