Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Philipp Max by transfer from the German Eintracht Frankfurt! The German left-back has signed a three-year contract.
Max was born on September 30, 1993 in Wiersen, Germany. He started out at Baldham’s academy, before jumping first to Munich 1860 and at the age of 14 making the leap to the academy of top German club, Bayern Munich. He stayed there until he was 17, when Schalke took him. In Schalke he took his first professional steps as a football player of the second team. The big moment with his first team and Bundesliga debut came on March 25, 2014.
A few months later he was transferred to Karlsruhe, a team that was then competing in the second division. Having a ‘full-on’ season, Max earned his… promotion to the Bundesliga, leading Augsburg to spend almost €3.5 million to sign him in the summer of 2015. At Augsburg he made all of Germany talk about him, especially for his performance in handing out assists. He recorded a total of 156 appearances, 15 goals and 29 assists.
He stayed for five years in Augsburg, which finally in 2020 sold him to the Dutch PSV Eindhoven for 10 million euros. In the Netherlands, he took the starting line-up jersey again, winning a Cup (2022) and a Super Cup (2021) in 117 appearances with 8 goals and 20 assists. In January 2023, he repatriated, after being loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt, who eventually bought him from Eindhoven six months later. In the Frankfurt team he played in 42 games, scoring once and providing 5 assists. Philipp Max counts three participations in the German national team.
Max got the jersey with number 3.
We welcome Philipp into Panathinaikos’ family.
