FC Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of the Slovenian offensive midfielder Benjamin Verbic. The player has signed a contract till 2025.
Benjamin Verbic was born on the 27th of November of 1993 in Celje, Slovenia. He debuted his career with Celje FC, his hometown team. At the age of 19 he scored at the Slovenian Cup final, but could not gain the trophy as FC Maribor won in the penalties procedure. He played for the Slovenian Cup final with Celje in three occasions, but was not able to celebrate a victory. He became Celje’s leading player and top scorer at the age of 21 being invited to the Slovenian national team. All these achievements started ringing the bells of FC Copenhagen, Denmark’s leading team, a Club for which he signed in summer 2015.
Verbic became in Denmark one of FC Copenhagen’s most outstanding players scoring three minutes after his debut and becoming a “collector” of titles with two doubles in 2,5 seasons! In 2018 he was transferred to Dynamo Kiev. In Ukraine Verbic kept up the good job by striking and scoring! There he won the championship once and the Cup twice, being in one occasion the scorer of Dynamo’s unique goal, getting the final to the penalties. Last March he took advantage of FIFA’s directive, due to the war in Ukraine and went on loan to Legia Warsaw where he played during two months, participating in the qualifying stage of UCL against Fenerbahce.
Verbic is a starting up player of the national team of Slovenia having scored goals in 43 matches.
Benjamin, welcome into Panathinaikos’ family!
